According to a report by the US media on December 27, Qualcomm announced on December 27 that it had appointed Cristiano Amon to the company’s president and decided to enter into force on January 4, 2018. Amon will be responsible for the development strategy of Qualcomm's core business (semiconductor and patent licensing), as well as the expansion of new business beyond smartphones.
Amon currently serves as executive vice president of Qualcomm Technologies, a subsidiary of Qualcomm, and president of Qualcomm CDMA Technologies (QCT).
After being promoted to Qualcomm’s chief executive, he will continue to lead Qualcomm’s semiconductor business and report to CEO Steve Mollenkopf.
Molenkov said in a statement: "Amon's unique business, engineering and operational skills and experience have enabled him to continue to promote Qualcomm's technology and leadership in the areas of mobile, Internet of Things, automotive, edge computing and networking. Lead Qualcomm to 5G transition."
Amon, 47, has been working for Qualcomm in Santiago since 1995. Since 2008, he has been managing the product roadmap for the semiconductor business. In the past five years, he has been the co-president or president of Qualcomm's chip business. Under the leadership of Amon, Qualcomm successfully established chipset strategy and business in the Chinese market.
Prior to joining Qualcomm, Amon was chief technology officer of Vesper, a Brazilian wireless operator. He also serves on companies such as NEC, Ericsson and Velocom.
