The pull-in current of the relay is larger than the release current. After the pull-in, the relay keeps working on the pull-in current. The circuit shown in the figure allows the relay to maintain low current operation after the pull-in, reducing power consumption. When the 3 pin of 555 is turned from low to high level, since the voltage across C can not be abrupt, the injection current obtained by the VT tube is (VA-0.7V)/R2. After that, C charges through the R2 and eb junctions, and VB drops. After C is fully charged, VB=VA-Vc. As Ib decreases, the current IC flowing through the relay is reduced to near the release current, and the relay operates in a low power state. .
