Materials used to make this decorative graduation wreath.

Steps

1. Cut the Pool Noodle

I was able to upcycle a pool noodle from last summer. First I trimmed one end using basic home scissors (cut about 9 inches or so off).

2. Begin Wrapping One End

Secure one end of noodle with a few wraps of Pro® 46 Colored Masking Tape in light green.

*I suggest Pro® 46 Colored Masking Tape because it has a nice flexibility for covering the curved surface of the noodle and the color coating on the outer side tape seems to have a matte finish, which hides creases well and really makes it seamless to work with.

3. Connect Ends

I continued by linking the two ends together in a ‘figure 8’ style wrapping pattern till it felt secure enough. It honestly was a little tricky at first to hold the noodle and wrap the tape, but once you get going… it’s easy!

Connect the two ends together wrapping the tape in a figure 8 pattern.

4. Continue Wrapping

Once you feel the two ends are secure (don’t worry if you have any mishaps you will be covering with embellishments), continue wrapping your noodle till you reach the other end. If you are layering colors then 100% coverage is not necessary. Just make your way around. I covered my noodle entirely to hide the pink (color of noodle I had) I used an entire roll of Pro® 46 light green Colored Masking Tape.

Once you feel the two ends are secure continue wrapping your noodle till you reach the other end.

5. Add More Color

Once you’re noodle is covered in your first color, I suggest adding some accent colors or a pattern. For this I just ripped some strips and let creativity take over… My daughter’s school colors are green and white, so I used the light green, dark green, white and black — to compliment the graduation cap.

I suggest adding some accent colors or a pattern.

6. Create the Graduation Cap

I upcycled a piece of cardboard. You could even use a cereal box, something sturdy. I sized it against my wreath and cut it square. Next, I simply layered some Pro® 46 Black Colored Masking Tape and wrapped the edges over. Bing bang boom! EASY Peesy! Poked a hole in the center affixed a brad/ brass fastener and then found some green yarn and made up a little tassel to loop over the brad. One piece of UGlu® holds the cap in place slightly askew from the top center. You can place the cap wherever you like… BE CREATIVE!

7. Add More Embellishments

Roll up a white piece of copy paper, tie with a ribbon, and attach with a tiny piece of UGlu®. Along with any other embellishments you like.

With your ribbon or yarn, cut yourself a piece to use as a hanger and loop it around the top and hang it up!! –YAY! Congrats Grad! I MADE THIS WITH TAPE!!

Add more embellishments to finish your wreath.

Other Notes:

Pro® 46 Colored Masking Tape has a great flex to it which worked well over the curved surface and was very easy to work with. While the Artist Tape is a bit stiff, it still worked, I just found Pro® 46 was the better choice for me! I did use a mix of Pro® 46 Colored Masking Tape and Artist Tape to complete the outer pattern around the wreath by cutting strips and overlapping layers to play with the widths of tape. Here the repositionable tape was great because I was able to lift and play around with my designs.

UGlu®. A staple for any crafter. Just one little square adhesive and this entire wreath came together once I attached the cap. UGlu® you amaze me! You tiny little sticky tape blob you!

Thank you for coming in so many sizes! And for being SO STICKY! And easy to use!

The Pro® 46 Tape Colored Masking Tape is strong and was able to hold the the two ends of the foam noodle together without any question.

Hang the finished decoration.
