GDC 2018 Google will give a speech, or will release a new AR/VR tool in the 2018 Game Developers Conference two weeks later!
We look forward to seeing Google's new products at the I/O Developers Conference later this year, but before that, we might be the first to see it at the 2018 Game Developers Conference two weeks later.
Google will travel to GDC on its own Developer Day on Monday, March 19. On the same day, Google will hold talks for developers working on its Android platform, Daydream Mobile Virtual Reality Ecosystem and ARCore AR platform. The specific "Google Developers Day Keynote" will start at 10 am Pacific time, and in the conversation, Google expressed its expectation of "new product release" and so on.
This may not be related to virtual reality, but Nathan Martz, Google's AR/VR developer platform product manager, will be one of the three speakers at the conference, so it's very likely that there will be at least some immersive tech news (if it's hardware) In terms of aspects, perhaps in terms of software). After the keynote, Google made two AR talks, one of which came from Martz, so we expect any notifications to involve ARCore instead of Daydream.
In other words, we are likely to get the release date of Google and Lenovo's upcoming independent VR headset Mirage Solo, which is expected to be available at a certain point in the second quarter for $399. The headset runs on Daydream and features full six-degree-of-freedom (6DOF) position tracking, making it a significant advancement in the stand-alone headset category. At least, we hope to see it better during the GDC.
