The purpose of adding odorant to natural gas Natural gas is colorless and odorless. If it is not found, it can be very dangerous. After such substances are added, if they are leaked, they will be discovered in time to ensure safe use. The relevant standard "Natural Gas" GB/T 17820-2012 Article 5.3 provides: Natural gas as a town gas, should have a detectable odor. The minimum amount of odorizer in gas is specified in 3.2.3 of the Code for Design of Urban Gases GB50028-2006. 3.2.4 specifies the quality and parameter requirements of town gas odorants. The odorant commonly used in China is tetrahydrothiophene, and the added amount is generally 20~25mg/Nm3. What is tetrahydrothiophene? Tetrahydrothiophene is a colorless, transparent, volatile liquid that is insoluble in water and miscible in alcohol, ether, benzene, and acetone. With a strong unpleasant odor, the odor it produces is stable and difficult to emit. The presence of 0.01PPm in the air can smell it. Tetrahydrothiophene is not corrosive to materials such as gas equipment and transportation pipeline gaskets, and does not become habit-passivated to the human sense of smell. Therefore, it is used as a gas leak warning agent for city gas, natural gas, etc., and is added in a small amount to gas fuels. The previously used odorants such as ethanethiol were banned. The amount of tetrahydrothiophene added to natural gas is small and basically harmless. Recommended products: methane detector combustible gas detector
