On the morning of the 12th, the “2010 Cross-Strait Optoelectronic Forum” with the theme of “Promoting Energy Conservation and Carbon Reduction” was held in the International Convention and Exhibition Center. In his speech, Vice Minister of Science and Technology Cao Jianlin said that the state clearly stated that it should put science and technology in a strategic position of priority development and emphasize the ability to improve independent innovation. The Ministry of Science and Technology will better promote independent innovation, guide and promote the construction of national innovative pilot cities, promote the transformation of development mode and industrial restructuring, and accelerate the development of strategic emerging industries in the field of optoelectronics. At present, the large-scale pattern of semiconductor lighting engineering industrialization base on the west coast of the Straits with Xiamen as the core has taken shape, and Xiamen's position as the leading optical industry in the economic zone of the West Coast of the Taiwan Straits has been further consolidated. At the same time, the growth rate of solar photovoltaic industry, optoelectronic semiconductor, light source and lighting in Taiwan is staggering. In 2009, the photovoltaic industry in Taiwan has an output value of 52 billion US dollars, accounting for 16% of the global market. It is expected to exceed 60 billion US dollars in 2010. It is believed that the future strong cooperation between the two sides will promote the common development of the optoelectronic industry across the Taiwan Straits.

Ms. Wu Ling, a well-known optoelectronic expert in the mainland and secretary general of the National Semiconductor Lighting Engineering R&D and Industry Alliance, pointed out in her keynote speech that the current energy-saving optoelectronic industry has great potential for development. If by 2020, half of the street lamps in the mainland will be replaced by LEDs (light-emitting diodes). Light bulbs, then the mainland will not need to build new power stations, and LED and other optoelectronic technologies used in the opening and closing ceremonies of large-scale events such as the Olympic Games and World Expo are also important signs to show a country's soft power.

Deputy Director Yang Shengfan of Taiwan Topology Industry Research Institute believes that the advantages of complementarity between the two sides in the field of optoelectronics are large, Taiwan is relatively mature in terms of panel and LED technology, and the mainland has obvious advantages in solar power generation. The two sides can be divided vertically in the industry and resource integration. The cooperation is to strive to create a photoelectric brand belonging to the Chinese people on both sides of the strait within 3-5 years.
