On March 28, 2009, the Earth Hour event launched by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) was launched globally. This year's event has received responses from more than 3,000 cities around the world, and several cities in China have participated. The Bird's Nest and Water Cube in the Beijing Olympic Park, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower in Lujiazui District of Shanghai Pudong, Hong Kong and other places have all participated in this Earth Hour event, and have turned off the lights to support environmental protection.
Starting from 20:25 pm on March 28, a number of high-rise buildings in the Central District of Hong Kong have extinguished the landscape lights. Exterior lighting including famous landmarks such as HSBC, Standard Chartered, Hong Kong City Hall, Mandarin Oriental Hotel, AIG Building and Bank of China Tower are all extinguished.
In the central area of ​​the Olympic Park in Beijing, the Bird's Nest first turned off the lights, the Water Cube and the Linglong Tower and other landmark buildings of the Beijing Olympic Games. The central area of ​​the Olympic Park, which was brightly lit and colorful, was shrouded in darkness.
Shanghai Pudong Lujiazui area is a gathering place for Shanghai's high-rise buildings and is a symbol of Shanghai as an international metropolis. The famous Oriental Pearl Tower closed the landscape lights at 20:30, and at the same time held a series of environmental protection theme public welfare activities in the tower.
In Guangzhou, the headquarters of Netease Building started from 20:25 to 20:38, and the lighting of the office area was closed layer by layer.
Earth Hour is an initiative of WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) to address global climate change. It is hoped that individuals, communities, businesses and governments will turn off their lights for a specific hour to show their support for climate change actions.
