For automotive and industrial lighting applications, Linear Technology has announced the LT3519, a 45V, high-voltage current sense DC/DC converter designed to drive high-current LEDs with a 3V to 40V input voltage range.
The LT3519 is known to drive up to 10 100mA white LEDs from a 12V input, making it ideal for a wide range of applications such as automotive and industrial lighting. It delivers up to 90% efficiency in a tiny MSOP-16E package through boost mode. With True Color PWM dimming, fixed LED colors in the range of over 3,000:1 are available; for less demanding dimming applications, the CTRL pin can be used to provide 10:1 analog dimming. This component's fixed frequency, constant current, and constant voltage regulation provide stable operation over a wide range of supply and output ranges while ensuring consistent LED brightness. The LT3519 combines a 45V, 750mA switch, Schottky diode and internal compensation to provide a very small LED driver solution. The LT3519 senses the output current on the high side of the LED and can be configured for buck, buck, or boost. Combining traditional voltage feedback and unique floating current sensing feedback, these converters provide the highest design flexibility as a constant voltage or constant current source.
