Microsoft recently announced the Custom Speech Service, which is the latest addition to Microsoft's Cognitive Services. It includes a series of disruptive technologies that solve AI problems such as computer vision and machine learning.
CSS is a highly adaptable speech-to-text program that can be seen as a greatly evolved version of Apple Siri or Google Assistant.
CSS combines two cutting-edge technologies to achieve the next generation of performance. The first is CRIS - Custom Recognition Intelligent Service. Microsoft said:
"(CRIS) allows companies to use personalized speech recognition. Developers upload sample audio files and recordings, and the recognizer can be personalized according to different environments. This allows recognition to work better in unusual environments, such as In the factory or outdoors."
This means that CRIS enables organizations to create their own unique voice commands that make specific voice-to-text instructions work better. For example, one plus hospital can form a complete list of surgery or disease related to facilitate patient inquiries.
To make CSS more powerful, it is LUIS (Chapter Understanding Language Service) in addition to CRIS. LUIS is described by Microsoft as an "intention engine" that helps computers understand the meaning behind human language.
For example, the current voice command is a specific word or phrase that is mapped by a programmer into a given action - "find coffee" or "take me to coffee" will open the map app and point you to the nearest coffee shop. But with the use of LUIS, it can be said "find coffee, take me to coffee, I need coffee, I need someone to pick me up, my eyes can't open, etc."
LUIS is trained to understand what our words mean, not just what we are talking about. With its help, a big voice command can be used by the customer at the end of the job with less work.
VR Experience Playing with Voice - Ship Commander
CSS is a service, and Microsoft itself does not need to build products around this process. This work was handed over to Human Interact, a VR content studio.
Human Interact's debut project was Starship Commander, a voice-driven VR experience that leveraged Microsoft's new and powerful tools. According to the foreign media UploadVR experience, this is "the most intelligent speech interaction engine in immersive applications."
This experience is more like an interactive movie than a simple game. The entire experience is centered on speech. The player is to be the pilot of the Starship ship. It is the supervisor of a super computer and holographic imagery who performs the task with you. The interaction between the player and these characters is all accomplished through voice commands, and you can explore the vast world.
In the experience, a total of 20 dialogues were experienced, but developers stated that this was only a taste of the surface of hundreds of dialogues in their programs.
The commander of the ship is built using CRIS and LUIS. The characters in the game can understand and react to specific words about ships and aliens. Due to the existence of the LUIS system, they are able to correctly understand what the player wants to say, even if it is not precisely what is said in the “mapping programâ€: the “go it†story can be continued. Although the combination of words does not conform to the corresponding instructions, the system still understands what the player means.
With CSS and the entire cognitive service (eight are currently available and seventeen are previewed), Microsoft's mission is to "make every organization and individual use artificial intelligence."
