OCZ SSD shipments increased by 265% quarter-to-quarter

OCZ, which has transformed itself from a memory maker to a solid-state drive maker, has announced its quarterly earnings report. Although overall losses have occurred, the performance of the SSD business is enough to give investors confidence.

In the second quarter of fiscal 2011 (October to August 2010), OCZ's revenue was 38 million U.S. dollars, which was basically the same as the same period of last year. It reported a quarterly loss of 7.6 million U.S. dollars. However, OCZ does not seem to be in a hurry for temporary losses. CEO Ryan Petersen stated that the company's enterprise and server-grade solid-state drive business is enjoying a good momentum of development. Management is very satisfied with the development speed of enterprise and consumer-grade SSD product lines. The transition plan for the withdrawal of the low-margin memory market is also well underway.

In August of this year, OCZ announced that it will gradually stop production of low-end mainstream memory. In the future, it will only introduce high-margin high-performance enthusiast-class memory products, and the company's main strength will also be concentrated in the SSD product line. In the second quarter, shipments of OCZ SSDs surged by 265% from the previous month, from 15,000 units in the first quarter to 54,000 units in the second quarter. Based on this sales volume, OCZ's solid-state drive revenue increased by 51% from $13.3 million in the first quarter to $20.2 million, which already accounted for more than 50% of the company's total revenue.
