Prohibition of lighting incandescent lamps of 60 W or more

The theme series “Advocating Green Lighting Consumption and Leading a Low-Carbon and Healthy Life” hosted by China Lighting Association was successfully held in Beijing on March 15. At the event, Liu Shengping, chairman of the China Lighting Association, said that according to the “China's Roadmap for Phase-out of Incandescent Lamps”, on October 1 this year, the import and sale of incandescent lamps for general lighting of 60 watts and above will be banned.

According to Liu Shengping, at present, China's lighting electricity consumption accounts for about 13% of the total electricity consumption in the society. If we replace all incandescent lamps in use with high-efficiency lighting products, we can save 48 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity each year, which has huge potential for energy conservation. Up to now, more than a dozen countries and regions in the world have issued plans to phase out incandescent lamps and promote green lighting. On November 1, 2011, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Commerce, the General Administration of Customs, the State Administration for Industry and Commerce, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine and other departments jointly issued the "China Roadmap for Phase-out of Incandescent Lamps". Gradually prohibit the import and sale of general lighting incandescent lamps. According to the requirements of the road map, starting from October 1, 2014, China will ban the import and sale of incandescent lamps for general lighting of 60 watts or more. This power of incandescent products is still a common electric light source in ordinary people's lives. The implementation of the road map will change people's consumption and usage habits of lighting products.

This event is a concrete action to implement the “State Council’s Opinions on Accelerating the Development of Energy-saving and Environmental Protection Industries” and the “Opinions of the Ministry of Commerce on Doing a Good Job in Expanding Consumption in the Commercial Sector in 2014”. Through this activity, China will accelerate the elimination of inefficient lighting products, further expand the domestic market share of various types of high-efficiency lighting products, and play an active role in promoting green and low-carbon procurement and consumption, and accelerating the development of energy-saving and environmental protection industries.

The event was sponsored by the China Lighting Association and received strong support from the Department of Marketing and Consumption Promotion of the Ministry of Commerce. The activity took the lighting market in Beijing as a pilot, launched a series of market promotion and guidance activities to promote the consumption of green lighting products, popularized the knowledge of LED lighting, allowed consumers to purchase and use LED lighting products correctly, and guided green and low-carbon consumption.
