Toshiba single-chip low-foot count MCU enables multi-motor control

Toshiba's storage and electronic components solutions company today announced that it has successfully developed a new family of microcontroller products - "M4K family", which supports the use of low pin count (32-64 pins) The chip controls multiple motors. The MK4 family is the second product in the Toshiba high-speed, low-power microcontroller TXZTM family. These microcontrollers integrate the ARM® Cortex®-M core and sample shipments of 13 products will be available in October.

As energy-saving regulations become more stringent and products continue to be smaller, there is an increasing demand for low-foot count microcontrollers (MCUs) that can effectively control multiple motors.

These new products meet the needs of home appliance motor control systems such as air conditioners based on the ARM® Cortex®-M4F with integrated floating point processing unit. Integrated features include a high-precision analog-to-digital converter with a conversion speed of 0.5μs, high-speed flash memory operating at up to 80MHz, and a coprocessor for Toshiba's original vector control engine. These integrated features work together to ensure efficient motor control for these new products while improving power factor and system control.

These new products support the RAMScope interface, which allows real-time parameter validation by loading parameters related to motor control into the RAM without stopping the motor. These products also incorporate self-diagnostics and CRC algorithm circuitry, the former used to confirm the reference voltage of the analog-to-digital converter, and the latter used to detect errors in every read of the memory, which helps to reduce functional safety [1] ] The load of the required software process.

application

Electrical appliance with motor control system

Air conditioning, washing machine, refrigerator, ventilation fan, ceiling fan, electric bicycle, etc.

Main features of new products

(1) Two motors can be controlled in a 64-pin package.

So far, two motors have to be driven in a 100-pin package [2]. Now, the TXZ series in a 64-pin package can control two motors because the speed of the analog-to-digital converter used to detect the motor position is increased, achieving a conversion speed of 0.5 μs.

(2) Provide a solution to drive the motor more simply.

Solutions such as sample software for vector control and power control using built-in hardware resources (Advanced Vector Control Engine (A-VE+), high-speed analog-to-digital converters, and advanced programmable motor control circuits (A-PMD)) Easy motor drive.

(3) This package series supports the reduction of the size of boards for products such as home appliances.

A variety of low pin counts (32 to 64 pins) and small flash products (64KB to 128KB) are available.

The range includes wide-pitch products for flow solder placement and dense pitch products for reflow soldering.
