US Energy Star Standard will take effect on September 30th

The Semiconductor Lighting Project team will hold a 90-minute conference to provide an overview of the DOE ENERGY STAR® standard for semiconductor light sources. The standard was released in September 2007 and will take effect on September 30, 2008.
The spokesperson will announce the priority strategy and details of Class A (Recent) and Class B (future) applications, and provide a general view of product access procedures, testing requirements, quality assurance, equipment use, and vendor and project sponsor information. . The launch will focus on future plans to keep pace with rapid advances in technology, including expanding Class A products and improving power target values in a timely manner. The standard covers semiconductor lighting applications in residential, commercial, industrial and outdoor lighting and can guide recent and future product performance.
Background: This is the fourth conference hosted by the DOE on semiconductor lighting. The first is the Five-Year SSL Commercialization Support Plan that outlines the DOE; the second is a large-scale Promote LED technology; the third is the performance of light sources in the laboratory. Future hotspots will be the economics of LEDs, LED packaging, light source efficiency and heat dissipation.
