Zetex Semiconductors offers three flexible LED drivers that provide designers with the performance they need for next-generation, high-brightness LEDs. The new ZXLD132X inductive DC-DC converter family drives single or multiple 700mA to 1.5A LEDs in buck, boost and buck/boost configurations. These drivers are available in a small 3 x 4mm DFN package that halve the footprint of existing solutions.
The new chip features an innovative variable “on/off†time control circuit with adjustable peak switch current limit for easier control than other pulse frequency modulation (PFM) solutions. These drivers also help to accurately and independently set the LED current and peak inductor current.
The ZXLD132X's feedback control circuit features excellent load and current regulation to provide positive and negative 3% typical LED current stability over the life of the battery and over the extended operating temperature range of -40°C to 125°C. By applying a DC voltage signal, the LED current can be reduced from 100% of the preset value to 10%; for pulse width modulation (PWM) inputs, the current can be reduced to 2%.
The highly integrated ZXLD132X LED driver family also features thermal control circuitry that monitors the external thermistor to linearly reduce the output current when the temperature exceeds a predetermined threshold. If a low level DC voltage signal is applied, the device can be turned off.
Hu Guangfa, Vice President of Asia Marketing at Zetex, said: "By integrating DC-DC converters, current monitors that accurately stabilize the output current, thermal control circuitry, and powerful 2A NPN switching transistors in a compact DFN package, we Allows customers to utilize the most advanced LED technology for maximum luminous flux output."
The first to introduce a new family of products, the ZXLD1320 step-down driver delivers up to 1.5A of continuous LED current over an input voltage range of 4V to 18V. The device achieves a maximum power of 24W depending on the supply voltage and the choice of external components. This device is suitable for halogen replacement and battery driven applications.
The ZXLD1321 is a boost driver that operates from a 1V to 12V input voltage range and provides 1A of LED current. The ZXLD1322 is a buck/boost driver that delivers 700mA from a 2.5V to 15V input voltage range. Both devices are suitable for high power LED flashlights, LED backup lighting and general purpose LED driver applications.
