Osterhout Design Group has introduced a new type of augmented reality smart glasses for use in hazardous locations.
ODG, based in San Francisco, has begun shipping R-7 AR glasses worth $2,750 to professional users. Now they provide the market with the latest product, the R-7HL, for $3,500. This solid product can meet the requirements of workplaces such as construction sites.
Pete Jameson, chief operating officer of ODG, said in an interview with GamesBeat: “We have produced another version of dangerous locations based on R-7 and its capabilities.â€
Consumers can now order glasses through the ODG website or through their partner program. According to Xiaobian, R-7HL will begin shipping at the end of the second quarter of this year.
ODG Executive Director Ralph Osterhout stated in a statement: “To meet the needs of working in extreme environments, ODG has developed R-7HL, which is for oil exploration and production, energy, mining, and public use. The R-7HL has a reinforced enclosure that meets the MIL-STD-810G certification standard for protection against falling, shock, impact, and extreme temperatures. In addition, R-7HL also meets ANSI Z87.1 dust and splash protection standards. Xiao Bian thinks that the specifications of R-7HL make it very suitable for high-risk working environments such as oil exploration and production, public utilities, chemical production, airport refuelling, and pharmaceuticals.
