The French bulb market is undergoing major changes, LED lights will become mainstream

With the implementation of the EU regulations on the ban of incandescent lamps by 2010, the French bulb market is facing major adjustments, and new bulbs represented by energy-saving lamps and LED lamps will gradually become the mainstream of the market.

France is an active support and promoter of this EU regulation. According to regulatory requirements, starting from September 1, 2009, France has completely banned the purchase of 100-watt incandescent lamps. The three major bulb manufacturers in the French market, Philips, OSRAM and General Electric, have been greatly affected. These three producers accounted for 43% of the French bulb market. A spokesman for OSRAM believes that although manufacturers have been working hard to develop new energy-saving light bulbs, the implementation time of the bill is still too urgent for manufacturers.

According to the French "Echo", there are currently three alternative bulbs for incandescent bulbs in the French market: one is a halogen bulb, which is cheap, between 3 and 5 euros. The other is a compact fluorescent lamp (energy-saving lamp), which sells for a slightly higher price, between 5 and 10 euros, but has a longer life and better energy saving. The third type is LED lights, which are mainly used by professional departments such as hotels and hospitals, and the price is between 7 and 40 euros. According to statistics, as of October 2009, the market share of LED lights in France was 4%, doubled compared with the previous year.

According to the French "Tribune" report, the major bulb manufacturers in the French market are currently building factories in Asia to speed up the production of energy-saving light bulbs to meet market needs. Homelights, the fourth largest producer of the French bulb market, recently signed a cooperation agreement with Toshiba of Japan. It plans to produce and sell 600,000 LED lamps in 2010, with sales expected to reach 10 million euros. Japan's Matsushita and Sharp are also planning to enter the French environmentally friendly lighting bulb market in 2010.

In view of the huge waste of incandescent energy, the European Commission enacted regulations in December 2008. From September 1, 2009 to December 31, 2012, the EU will phase out 100 watts, 75 watts, 60 watts, 40 watts in five phases. And 25 watt incandescent lamps.
