At the recent China Laptop Design Competition held in Kunshan, Jiangsu, industrial design became the main theme of the forum.

Unprecedented attention

Industrial design has become one of the core drivers of manufacturing competition. According to relevant Japanese surveys, the role of industrial design accounts for more than 70% in developing differentiated products, increasing value-added, increasing market share, and creating star enterprises. . In our country, industrial design has also received unprecedented attention.

"This year, China's industry has two major happy events. It is a new milestone in the development of China's industrial design. It has the significance of transcending the times." Zhu Xi, president of the China Industrial Design Association, said with excitement at the meeting. The first happy event he pointed out was in Premier Wen's government work report earlier this year. It was the first time that vigorous development of industrial design was written and industrial design was listed as one of the seven productive service industries that needed to be vigorously developed. The second happy event is that in August this year, 11 ministries and commissions such as the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology jointly issued the “Guiding Opinions on the Promotion of Industrial Design Development”. Zhu Xi believes that the development of industrial design has become a strategic information industry promoted by the country, and the development of industrial design in China has entered a new historical stage.

Xiao Hua believes that industrial design plays an important role in promoting industrial development and the realization of industrial value. “The iPad brings us the insight that industrial design can help us to surpass the corners. In the wintel system, the core technology is only one or two countries. In this case, in order to realize its own value, it depends on industrial design."

Low transformation efficiency of results to be solved

Although industrial design has received increasing attention and the external environment has been gradually optimized, there are also many problems in it. The outstanding point is that the conversion efficiency of results is low.

At the summit, the organizer released the White Paper on the Competitiveness of China's Notebook Industry Design. Based on the index system of industrial design environment factors, resource integration, external resource utilization, and achievement transformation, the notebook manufacturers' industrial competitiveness was analyzed. The report shows that among these indicators, the environmental factors of notebook industry design in the Mainland are relatively good, and are at the same level as overseas developed countries and regions. However, it is clearly at a disadvantage in the conversion of results, such as the number of patent applications is lower than overseas.

“The speed of industrial design is fast, but the scale is not large enough and the level is not high enough,” said Zhu Xi. He said that in order to improve the incentives and support policies for industrial design, it must be specific and the protection of intellectual property should be strengthened. "If we do not protect innovation, we will attack innovation and we must transform domestic companies from plagiarism," said Zhu Xi.
