The perfect, flat perforated assembly, that is, the LED package is "invisible" inside the printed circuit board, while conventional LED components protrude from the board surface. With a flat surface, other components, such as light guides, controllers, or keyboards, are easily installed or connected.

However, in terms of assembly, OSRAM PointLED is extremely flexible and can take advantage of standard surface mount (SMT) technology in addition to perforated assembly technology. Designed specifically for space-constrained applications, PointLED has a package diameter of only 2 mm and an overall height of only 0.775 mm. The reflector itself is only 0.5 mm high and can be well embedded in thin printed circuit boards or fabrics.

It is used in a wide range of applications, from interior design to fashion design to advertising materials.
