The signage for Mineta San Jose International Airport in California uses the LUXEON Rebel optical module designed by Silicon Constellations of Santa Clara, California. By combining LUXEON technology and Silicon Constellations' Novele optical modules, the depth of the operating space is minimized and no backlights are required to create the world's thinnest double-sided illuminated signage.
Each sign uses a 1 x 1.5 Rebellious I module mounted on the top and bottom sides of the sign. Each module contains a white LUXEON Rebel LED with a minimum luminous flux of 100 lm, which is mounted on a specific board for maximum heat dissipation.
LUXEON Rebel's high luminous flux, combined with the innovative thermal management of the Rebellious I module, illuminates a 7-foot-wide sign with only 14 LEDs. LUXEON Rebel LEDs can reduce energy consumption by up to 70%, exceeding fluorescent or neon backlights, and four times the life of the light source further reduces costs and helps drive San Jose's green vision agenda to build the region A model of behavior for sustainable development.
The first signs to be powered by Noveseo have been installed on the outdoor ground transport islands of the airport. Over time, approximately 300 new signage systems will be built to provide direction indications for airport passengers.
