GE Lighting will introduce an LED replacement for a 100-watt incandescent bulb developed by a laboratory in East Cleveland, Ohio, with an input power of 27 watts and a standard "A-19" bulb shape. The 27-watt GE Energy Smart® LED bulb features proprietary synthetic jet technology developed by GE and the ecomaginationSM Challenge winner, Nuventix. The LED bulb will be placed on the shelf in the US and Canada in the first half of 2013 (the manufacturer's suggested retail price is pending).
GE's existing LED bulb portfolio includes 13 watt LEDs (a replacement for 60 watt incandescent bulbs) and 9 watt LEDs (a replacement for 40 watt incandescent bulbs), the world's first to receive the "Energy Star" (ENERGY STAR®) Certified Incandescent Bulb Shape (A-19) LED Bulb.
GE Lighting said its team has solved a previously insurmountable problem: replacing 100-watt A-19 shaped LEDs with bulbs without expanding physical size. Every subsystem, such as optics, electronics, and thermal, needs to be designed for miniaturization and interoperability.
GE's tests validate 100 watts of incandescent bulb replacements: lumens over 1600, uniform omnidirectional light distribution, 3000K color temperature, 25,000 hours of rated life (22.8 years, 3 hours per day), dimmable, mercury free, instantly Achieve full brightness and over 60 lumens per watt – all ingeniously blended into the standard A-19 bulb shape.
All GE Energy Smart® LED incandescent bulb replacements, including the upcoming 100-watt incandescent bulb replacement, provide uniform dimming like incandescent lamps, eliminating step dimming, jitter, flicker, momentary discharge, weakness or even Other LED bulbs claiming to have dimming are incited by inactivity. GE's LED bulbs also have an attractive incandescent size and shape, and are designed to give a soft white appearance when the bulb is turned off. All of GE's Energy Smart LED bulbs are rigorously tested to ensure consistent color, long life and verifiable lumens.
